Publishing with Evening Post Books

At Evening Post Books, we are constantly seeking writers to share their unique perspectives about the South Carolina Lowcountry and the greater South. To help us determine whether Evening Post Books will be the best fit for you, please complete the proposal form below and attach the required materials. Each field on the form is intentional and helps us get to know both you as a writer and your proposed book project. Before submitting your work to Evening Post Books, we recommend that you browse our catalog and read on to gain a better understanding of the types of books we publish.

Evening Post Books receives hundreds of submissions each year, however, given our size, we are only able to publish a handful of titles over the course of 12 months. Due to the volume of submissions, note we are only capable of responding to prospective authors whose work we intend to explore further.

When to Submit:

To streamline submissions and give each author a fair chance weighed among other works, Evening Post Books accepts manuscripts in two ‘Open Submissions’ periods listed below and reviews them in the subsequent month. We do not accept any submissions via email and do not provide status updates on submissions. We do not respond to submissions we do not intend to pursue.

Open Submission Periods:
  • Winter Open, all genres: February 1-28, 2025
  • Fall Open, all genres: August 1-31, 2025

What to Submit:

Evening Post Books was established in 2008 to uplift writers hailing from the South Carolina Lowcountry and has since expanded to publish works written in, or by people tethered to, the greater American South. We avoid publishing commercial fiction, titles geared towards young adults (YA), religious literature, children’s books that do not explicitly engage with the South, or books that have already been published, including self-published.

Evening Post Books is evolving and everchanging alongside the landscape of its homebase: Charleston, SC. With that said, we are most interested in poetry and prose that probe Southern issues and themes, look to the present and future of the American South, question and challenge Southern stereotypes, story and highlight forgotten or unrecognized perspectives and histories, and pay tribute to our region’s tradition of storytelling and its place within the Southern identity. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach us at info@eveningpostbooks.com
